Job summary

Prime Appointments Recruitment Agency with Witham, Essex, seeks an experienced Welding Team Leader to join a growing production team. The role leads welders, coordinates workloads and drives continuous improvement, combining hands-on welding with strong leadership and organisation.

The package includes a salary around £37,000, a 4-day week, 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, a company pension, and a profit-related bonus.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or mentoring a welding/fabrication team.
• Experience with MIG, TIG or Laser welding processes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Understanding of procedures and symbols used in welding.
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing/continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Welding/fabrication qualifications or certifications.
• Experience with robotic or automated systems advantageous.
• Knowledge of weld inspection techniques desirable.
• Experience in fenestration industry beneficial.
• Lean, Six Sigma or 5S training; CWI or safety certifications advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and support the team.

• Ensure operations meet quality and safety standards.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and welding specs.
• Carry out in‑process inspections and final quality checks.
• Work closely with production, quality and engineering.

• Promote Lean manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with ISO standards and company procedures.
• Assist with problem‑solving and root cause analysis activities.

• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Welding and fabrication qualifications/certifications
• Experience with robotic or automated systems would be advantageous

• Experience within the fenestration industry would be beneficial
• Lean, Six Sigma or 5S training would be an asset as would CWI or safety-related certifications
