Job summary

Theo James Recruitment is seeking a Welding Engineer for a major engineering and manufacturing business in the offshore renewables sector, based in Middlesbrough. You will take a leading role in welding activities across the site, supporting development and continuous improvement of the welding management system.

The successful candidate will act as the Responsible Welding Coordinator, providing technical expertise in welding, metallurgy, process development and manufacturing, with opportunities

Qualifications

• Experience in welding processes and process development.
• Familiarity with welding standards and metallurgy.
• Ability to mentor and train junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Develop welding processes, procedures and overall process capability.
• Support FAT, SAT and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment.
• Provide welding and metallurgical expertise for new projects and prototype manufacture.
• Manage new welding procedures and processes with skilled welders.
• Control the Welder Register and maintain qualifications.
• Produce technical reports and proposals for bespoke welding techniques.
• Collaborate with OEMs, suppliers and subcontractors on welding requirements.
• Maintain and develop the Welding Management System in line with ISO 3834.
• Support and mentor Junior Engineers in welding-related development.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Welding Engineer to join a large-scale, technically advanced manufacturing operation where welding quality, process development and engineering excellence are critical to the finished product.

The business has invested significantly in its UK manufacturing capability and offers the chance to work with large-scale equipment, advanced semi-automated welding technology and complex engineering processes.

Job Description

As Welding Engineer, you will take a leading role in welding activities across the manufacturing site, supporting the development and continuous improvement of the welding management system.

The Welding Engineer will act as the Responsible Welding Coordinator, providing technical expertise across welding, metallurgy, process development and manufacturing.

Key responsibilities will include

• Developing welding processes, procedures and overall process capability.
• Supporting FAT, SAT and the commissioning of new manufacturing equipment.
• Providing welding and metallurgical expertise for new projects and prototype manufacture.
• Managing new welding procedures and processes alongside skilled welding personnel.
• Controlling the Welder Register and ensuring qualifications remain appropriately maintained.
• Producing technical engineering reports and proposals for bespoke welding techniques.
• Working with OEMs, suppliers and subcontractors on engineering and welding requirements.
• Maintaining and developing the Welding Management System in line with ISO 3834.
• Supporting and mentoring Junior Engineers in welding-related technical development.
