Welder - Pressure Vessel - Submarines

Full Time

Location: Derby

Salary: Starting at £39,435 p/a, plus up to 26% shift premium (dependent on shift pattern), overtime opportunities, 33 days leave, and other corporate benefits. More information can be found here.

Due to business growth, several opportunities for Skilled Welders (with a recognized welding apprenticeship such as City and Guilds, NVQ3, or equivalent) have arisen within the New Build and Components division of Rolls-Royce Submarines. You will join our experienced welding team working on fabricating complex pressure vessels and pipework, which are part of our products delivered to the Royal Navy.

What we offer

You will be involved in welding various materials using manual TIG, mechanized TIG, and MIG processes, requiring flexibility across these methods. Key Responsibilities
  1. Welding products to nuclear standards following technical instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  2. Ensuring process control and workplace cleanliness standards are met.
  3. Performing inspections including X-Ray, Ultrasonic, and Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI).
  4. Utilizing advanced welding technology, including mechanized systems for static and rotational welding.
  5. Welding in various positions, including 6G.
  6. Collaborating with team members to resolve production and quality issues and undertaking additional tasks as needed.

This role is vital to maintaining Rolls-Royce's high-quality standards in our manufacturing processes.

Candidate Profile

We value agility, boldness, collaboration, and simplicity. To succeed, you should have:

  • A recognized welding apprenticeship (City and Guilds, NVQ3, or equivalent).
  • Experience in thick gauge welding, preferably on pipes.
  • Experience with pressure welding and inspections such as X-Ray, ultrasonic, or LPI.
  • Experience welding various materials, including stainless steel.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental procedures, including COSHH.
