Job summary

Styne Group is seeking a skilled welder/fabricator for a workshop-based role at IP22 1LP. You will perform MIG welding on mild steel and TIG welding on stainless steel, fabricate bespoke engineering solutions, and read engineering drawings and weld symbols to meet tight tolerances.

You will set up, tack, assemble and finish welds, fabricate pipework and general components, and operate workshop machinery safely. A full UK driving licence, CSCS card, and BS EN 1090 compliance are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Proven welding & fabrication experience in an engineering workshop.
• MIG welding experience required.
• TIG welding experience; stainless steel preferred.
• Experience working with mild and stainless steel.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
• Competent measuring, marking out, cutting and assembling components.
• Strong understanding of fabrication processes, weld prep, fit-up and finishing.
• Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
• Able to work independently from drawings and as part of a team.
• Awareness of Health & Safety in engineering workshops.

Responsibilities

• Carry out MIG welding on mild steel and TIG welding on stainless steel and other materials.
• Fabricate and assemble bespoke engineering solutions including structural steelwork and frames.
• Interpret drawings and weld symbols to exact tolerances.
• Set up, tack, assemble and finish welds using appropriate processes.
• Pipework fabrication and welding, including preparation and alignment.
• Measure, mark out, cut, drill, grind and prepare materials for fabrication.
• Carry out basic fitting and mechanical assembly where required.
• Operate workshop machinery safely (bandsaws, guillotines, drills, presses, grinders).
• Inspect own work for quality, identify defects and rectify issues.
• Maintain productivity to meet schedules and customer specifications.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers and project managers to resolve fabrication challenges.

Hourly rate/salary:£16.40 - £18.40 per hour

Key Outcomes and Responsibilities

• Predominantly workshop-based role carrying outMIG and TIG welding and fabricationacross mild steel, stainless steel and other materials as required.
• Fabricate and assemble a wide range ofbespoke engineering solutions, including structural steelwork, frames, platforms, pipework, brackets, machinery components, guards and general fabrications.
• Interpret and work accurately fromengineering drawings, weld symbols and technical specifications, ensuring all dimensions, tolerances and requirements are met.
• Carry out high-qualityMIG welding on mild steelandTIG welding on stainless steel and other suitable materials, producing strong, neat and consistent welds.
• Set up, tack, assemble and finish weld fabricated components, selecting appropriate welding processes, consumables and techniques for the application.
• Carry outpipework and general fabrication, including preparation, fit-up, alignment and welding of components and assemblies.
• Measure, mark out, cut, drill, grind and prepare materials ready for fabrication.
• Carry out basic fitting and mechanical assembly where required.
• Safely operate workshop machinery includingbandsaws, guillotines, drills, presses, grinders and other fabrication equipment.
• Inspect your own work to ensure high standards of workmanship, dimensional accuracy, weld quality and compliance with company and customer specifications.
• Identify and rectify fabrication or welding issues, including distortion, poor fit-up and weld defects.
• Work efficiently to meet production schedules and project deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
• Work on a varied range of projects, with the ability to move betweenmild steel, stainless steel and different welding processesdepending on project requirements.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures, with particular attention to welding safety, manual handling, lifting operations and safe use of workshop equipment.
• Work closely with supervisors, engineers, project managers and other members of the workshop team to resolve fabrication challenges and improve productivity and quality.
• Maintain workshop tools and equipment, reporting any defects and ensuring equipment is kept in good working order.

Requirements

• Proven experience inwelding and fabricationwithin an engineering or fabrication workshop.
• Practical experience withMIG welding.
• Practical experience withTIG welding, ideally including stainless steel.
• Experience working withmild steel and stainless steel.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
• Competent in measuring, marking out, cutting and assembling fabricated components.
• Good understanding of fabrication processes, weld preparation, fit-up and finishing.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
• Ability to work independently from drawings while also working effectively as part of a team.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an engineering workshop.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Located within a commutable distance of IP22 1LP.
• Experience working toBS EN 1090or similar standards.
• Experience with pipework fabrication and welding.
• Experience withTIG welding stainless steel pipework.
• Experience with overhead cranes, lifting equipment or heavy fabrication.
• Ability to carry out basic fitting and mechanical assembly.
• CSCS Card.
• Welding qualifications or coding.
• Experience working within hygienic, food, pharmaceutical or similar industries.
