An established industry player is seeking a skilled Welder-Fabricator to join their dynamic team dedicated to creating the city's festive lighting displays. This role encompasses the fabrication, maintenance, and installation of vibrant motifs, requiring expertise in MIG aluminium welding and a solid understanding of safe street work practices. You will collaborate closely with the Operations Supervisor, ensuring that all projects are executed efficiently and safely. Leeds Lights consists of a small team fabricating, manufacturing, and delivering the city's festive display annually. The team also manages the banner scheme throughout the city.
The Leeds Lights team spends the summer creating, designing, and producing a variety of festive motifs, including repairs and safety testing.
During winter, work is conducted in unsociable hours to install over 3,000 lamp column motifs using various lifting equipment. The team also installs electrical equipment within street furniture and conducts safety testing.
Leeds City Council seeks to appoint a Welder - Fabricator to assist with delivering the city’s annual festive lighting displays and banner scheme.
Working with the Operations Supervisor within Leeds Lights and the Arts, Events & Venues service, based at the Seacroft workshop, we require an experienced, skilled welder-fabricator with MIG aluminium welding experience, holding at least a Level 3 or equivalent qualification. Experience with mobile elevated working platforms (MEWPs), a detailed understanding of safe street work, and mechanical engineering are also essential.
The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude, excellent logistical and organizational skills, and will motivate workshop and site operations teams in manufacturing, installation, recovery, maintenance, and storage of festive lighting displays and the coordination of the city dressing banner programme.
It is required that the post holder be willing to work 37 hours over a 7-day week, including unsociable hours, weekends, and outdoor work.

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Advanced Welding Skills.
