Job summary

GKN Filton is hiring a Welder to join our aerospace manufacturing team. You will work on large structural wing assemblies and metallic components for civil and military aircraft, welding with titanium, aluminium and stainless steel.

The role requires an apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3, with experience in manufacturing and SOP-driven work. The position features a 25% shift premium and potential night shifts with a 33% premium.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
• Manufacturing environment experience expected.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures.
• Able to work in small teams with team leaders and communicate clearly.
• Desirable: Lean manufacturing, CNC operation, swaging pipework.

Responsibilities

• Work with titanium, aluminium and stainless steel in aircraft parts manufacture.
• Ensure parts are produced on a right-first-time basis.
• Clear work phases in SAP and flag non-conformance to leaders.
• Follow GKNAF Quality Procedures and HASAWA safety rules.
• Maintain housekeeping and comply with risk assessments and EHS procedures.

At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. The successful Welder will be expected to work with a variety of industry equipment in carrying out various fabrication duties. We're looking for someone that has knowledge of percussion riveting, Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels and other skills as expected with the role. This is a full-time, permanent position on the following shift pattern (which includes 25% shift premium):

• Week 1: Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday
• Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

There is opportunity to work night shifts once fully trained which incurs an additional 33% shift premium.

How You'll Contribute

• Working with various materials (titanium, aluminium, stainless steel) in the manufacture of aircraft parts, across a variety of Airbus family of aircraft
• Ensure parts are produced on a right first time basis
• Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
• Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
• Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
• Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
• To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
• Responsible for general housekeeping within the area
• Compliant with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities

• Essential: A recognised and relevant apprenticeship and relevant NVQ level 3 (Or equivalent)
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to work to standard operating procedures

• Self-motivated team player with good communication skills

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives
• Ability to operate CNC Machinery (Unison Pipe Bending machines, Power Presses, CNC Drilling & routering)
• Experience of swaging pipework
