Job summary

GKN Aerospace at Filton is seeking a Manufacturing Tooling Engineer to join the team. You will plan and modify fixtures, tools and manufacturing processes to support large, complex wing assemblies for civil and military aircraft.

Ideal candidates will have tooling experience, ERP and IT proficiency, and tool making expertise. The role involves resolving production issues, developing tooling processes, and collaborating across functions to ensure quality, cost and lead-time improvements.

Qualifications

  • Relevant plant tooling experience.
  • Proficient IT skills (ERP system, Office packages etc).
  • Tool making experience.
  • Experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve production issues in a timely manner and document actions.
  • Develop, evaluate, improve and document tooling processes.
  • Develop and implement process control techniques including work instructions using SPC, PFMEA.
  • Analyse tooling process flows for quality, cost and lead-time improvements.
  • Collaborate with other functions to ensure effective tooling solutions.
  • Coordinate tool inspection procedures with multifunctional teams.
  • Address and document root cause and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Determine required materials and tools to meet manufacturing demands.

At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.

We have an new exciting and career defining opportunity for a Manufacturing Tooling Engineer to join the team.


The successful applicant will perform a variety of engineering duties in planning and modifying fixtures, tools and manufacturing processes.

How You'll Contribute

We're looking for someone with the ability to resolve production issues in a timely manner completing all documentation on assigned parts.

As well as:

  • Develop, evaluate, improve and documents Tooling processes
  • Develop and implement process control techniques including work instructions using tools such as SPC, PFMEA
  • Analyse Tooling process flows continually for the improvements of quality, cost reduction, lead-time reduction for new work
  • Collaborate with other functions to ensure effective Tooling solutions
  • Coordinate Tool inspection procedures with multifunctional teams
  • Address and document cause and corrective action issues to prevent future problem occurrences
  • Determine required material and tools to meet manufacturing demands
