Job summary

Matchtech is sourcing welders in Glasgow for a major UK naval shipbuilding programme. You will contribute to Type 26 frigate construction, applying advanced welding skills and ensuring high-quality welds across carbon steel, stainless and aluminium components.

You'll join a collaborative team, benefit from ongoing training and develop specialist fabrication capabilities in a defence environment with long-term career potential.

Qualifications

• Modern Apprenticeship or Trade Papers required.
• SVQ3 or City & Guilds or equivalent.
• Experience with FCAW, metal-cored and ceramic tile welding.
• Experience welding carbon steel 4–15 mm thickness.
• Background in shipbuilding or heavy engineering.

Responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel, stainless and aluminium using MMA, MIG, MAG and more.
• Produce butt and fillet welds to exacting standards.
• Self-inspect and verify weld quality and compliance.
• Follow safety rules and SHE requirements at all times.
• Work in a skilled production environment delivering shipbuilding activities.

What You'll Be Doing

• Welding carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using MMA, MIG, MAG, FCAW, Submerged Arc and BUG-O processes.
• Producing high-quality butt and fillet welds to exacting standards.
• Carrying out self-inspection and verification to ensure weld quality and compliance.
• Following safe working practices and SHE requirements at all times.
• Working within a skilled production environment delivering complex shipbuilding activities.

What We're Looking For

• Modern Apprenticeship / Trade Papers (required and must be provided with your application).
• Relevant qualifications such as SVQ3, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
• Experience in FCAW, metal-cored and ceramic tile welding techniques.
• Ability to consistently achieve welds that meet visual inspection and NDE standards.
• Experience welding carbon steel materials between 4mm and 15mm thickness.
• Background within shipbuilding, maritime, manufacturing, construction, or other heavy engineering environments.
