Job summary

Lancashire County Council is recruiting for Vale View Day Centre in Lancaster. The role involves preparing menus, portion control and providing suitable dietary meals for elderly residents in a busy kitchen environment.

You will ensure hygiene and Health & Safety standards, manage stock, ordering and record-keeping, and supervise other kitchen staff to deliver high-quality meals. Prior experience in menu planning, cost awareness, and supervising teams is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in menu planning and stock control.
• Demonstrated ability to cater for large numbers.
• Experience in supervising staff within a kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of food costing and stock control.
• Understanding of specialised diets and basic nutritional needs.
• Awareness of basic hygiene and Health & Safety requirements.
• Proficiency in the correct use of kitchen equipment and utensils.

Responsibilities

• Prepare menus and portion control for residents.
• Provide dietary meals where appropriate for elderly residents.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and Health & Safety in the kitchen.
• Oversee service point operations, record-keeping, ordering supplies and stock counting.
• Supervise kitchen staff and ensure safe, effective teamwork.
• Apply knowledge of menu planning, stock control and diets to meals for large numbers.
