Job summary

Augustinian Care is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join our Catering team at a Care Home near Burgess Hill. You will help prepare meals for residents, guests and staff under the supervision of our Chef.

We value initiative, teamwork and a positive attitude. Requirements include at least 1 year in catering, a Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (or willingness to study), and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Training and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in a catering function.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 or willingness to study for it as part of the role.
  • Clear enhanced criminal record check and satisfactory references.
  • Current right to work in the UK.
  • COVID-19 vaccination proof is required by the employer.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vegetables, salads and sandwiches daily.
  • Wash up and store crockery, cutlery and utensils.
  • Assist in serving meals to residents, guests and staff.
  • Keep stores clean, tidy and in-date.
  • Dispose of refuse daily in a proper manner.
  • Use chemicals correctly and comply with COSHH regulations.
  • Keep kitchen clean and free of mess at all times.
  • Maintain daily fridge/pantry temperature check logs.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and work with daily routines.
  • Receive, check and store deliveries.
  • Assist with special event catering when required.

The Role

The kitchen Assistant work as part of our Catering team to assist in the provision of a catering function for the Care Home.

Our Care Home Kitchens are fully equipped to offer a breakfast, lunch and dinner service for our residents their guests and our staff.

Working under the guidance of our Chef, the Kitchen Assistant’s main duties are:

  • To prepare vegetables, salads and sandwiches on a daily basis
  • To wash up and store all crockery, cutlery and other utensils.
  • Assist serving the food at meal times to the residents, guests and staff.
  • Ensure the stores are kept clean and tidy and kept in date order
  • Dispose of refuge on a daily basis in a proper manner
  • To use correct chemicals when cleaning, whilst complying with the current COSHH regulations including the contact time for all chemicals and sanitizers.
  • To ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy and free of mess at all times
  • Keeping an up to date check list of temperature checks of the fridges and pantry areas on a daily basis.
  • To be aware of the guidelines relating to the use of cleaning schedules used on a daily basis.
  • To receive, check and store deliveries in the correct places.
  • Assist serving at special functions when required, including assisting with preparing the food and setting up for service.
Requirements

The Kitchen Assistant will have at least 1 years’ experience of working within a catering function.

It is not essential to have experience with a Care Home setting but would be desirable in understanding the needs of our residents.

The successful candidate will either hold a Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2, or to be prepared to study for this as part of the role requirements.

All posts are subject to a clear enhanced criminal record check and satisfactory references.

Although it is no longer a legal requirement for staff working within CQC regulated Care Homes for Older Adult Care in England to be fully COVID-19 vaccinated, in the best interests of our staff and residents, we have decided to keep it a mandatory requirement to work for our organisation. Therefore, we will need proof of your COVID Vaccination pass.

You must have current valid right to work in the UK
