Job summary

Essex Outdoors is seeking a Catering Assistant / Chef to support delivering a professional catering service for visitors at the Essex Outdoor Centres, Mersea, Colchester. You will help prepare, cook and serve meals and beverages, ensuring high standards of food, hygiene and safety, while managing stock and assisting with menu planning.

You must be available for weekend and evening work during the summer, with flexible working patterns.

Qualifications

Level 2 catering qualification or equivalent experience in large-volume catering
Current First Aid certificate
Current Food Hygiene certificate
Experience in preparation, cooking and service of food and beverages
Ability to train others in kitchen equipment

Responsibilities

Work with Catering Lead to deliver departmental objectives and budget stewardship.
Plan staff schedules and allocate staff according to demand.
Manage catering staff including seasonal and agency staff to ensure service quality.
Ensure hygiene and health and safety standards in kitchen and serving areas.
Manage on-site vending and menu planning with dietary considerations and budget.
Assist with procurement, stock control, waste management and equipment use.
Engage stakeholders to deliver value for money services.
Prepare, cook and serve meals and beverages; perform cleaning duties as needed.
Meet annual targets defined in performance framework.
