Job summary

Derby City Council’s Digital Services team invites applications for a Web Application Developer specialising in the Microsoft Power Platform to transform our council services. You will build Power Apps, automate flows with Power Automate, and create insights with Power BI, integrating systems and delivering user-centric solutions.

Working with service leads and stakeholders, you’ll gather requirements, manage multiple projects, and ensure delivery respects regulatory requirements and quality

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint).
  • Experience with web technologies such as .NET, MVC, OOP languages, CMS, or the Microsoft stack.
  • Understanding of quality assurance, UX, CX, and end-to-end service provision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Power Apps, Power Automate flows, Power BI and SharePoint integrations.
  • Provide technical and administrative support in IT projects and web-based solutions.
  • Liaise with service areas, users, third-party suppliers, and web officers to deliver solutions.
  • Implement workflows based on schedule- and persona-driven models.
  • Support testing, deployment, and user onboarding, including feedback loops and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical documentation and training materials for stakeholders.
  • Carry out system security maintenance tasks, including patching and user management.
  • Ensure adherence to Council policies and Data Protection Act.

If you thrive on building sophisticated Power Apps, automating workflows with Power Automate, integrating systems, and unlocking insights with Power BI, this is the role for you. This role is pivotal in delivering and enhancing our processes - ensuring they meet evolving service needs and regulatory requirements. You’ll collaborate with service leads, project managers, technical teams, and stakeholders to gather requirements, manage expectations, and deliver tailored solutions. The role supports cross-departmental initiatives such as reporting, procurement, and performance tracking, and will help drive the council’s digital transformation agenda.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Power Apps, Power Automate flows, Power BI and SharePoint integrations.

Person Specification Essential Skills and Experience
  • Evidence you have proven experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint).
  • Experience of web technologies such as .Net, MVC, OOP languages, CMS, or the Microsoft stack.
  • Understanding of quality assurance, UX, CX, and end-to-end service provision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Good level of interpersonal skills and an effective approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.
  • GCSE English and Maths Grade C or above (or equivalent), plus a relevant IT qualification including web-based modules.
Desirable
  • Experience in local government or public sector digital transformation.
  • Experience in quality assurance and accessibility requirements with application development.
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and performance management frameworks.
