The Institute of Legal Finance & Management is seeking a full-time Legal Cashier to assist their New York office. The role involves key responsibilities including bank reconciliation and bookkeeping within a dynamic and award-winning immigration practice. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth financial operations and must have relevant experience, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach.

Legal Cashier role
We are seeking a full-time and permanent experienced legal cashier primarily to assist our New York Office (working UK hours 9.30 am until 5.30 pm) with book-keeping, cashiering, bank reconciliation, data entry, processing of cheques and transfers, billing, petty cash and expenses.
The successful applicant will work closely with and support the Head of Finance and the London Team and will work with support and fee earning colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Accounts team.
Key Responsibilities
Undertaking daily banking functions
Processing of client and office accounting transactions
Preparation and processing of cheques and bank transfers
Posting client to office and office to client transactions
Processing of disbursements to office and matter ledgers
Reconciliation of credit card disbursements
Ensuring any queries are dealt with promptly and escalated accordingly
Electronic filing
Monthly billing (at least twice monthly)
Resolving Residual Balances
Daily updates to NY office regarding cash received
Review Alpha reports monthly with New York team to ensure they are clear on the financial status of each matter
Month end closing
This list is not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake additional duties to ensure the smooth running of the company.
Skills and Experience
At least 3-5 years’ experience in a legal cashier role
Strong bank reconciliation knowledge
Book-keeping experience
Knowledge of residual balances (SRA rules)
Experience of working with Linetime desirable
Purchase ledger knowledge and experience
Understanding of what to check when producing bills
Experience of working with international offices
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent telephone manner, well-presented and polite
Enthusiastic, flexible and proactive approach
Ability to work independently
Strong organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work
Ability to provide high quality client (internal and external) care and service
Strong written and communication skills
Computer literate - working knowledge of MS Office
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
Ability to cope with pressure and maintain a calm manner
Demonstration of outstanding work ethic
ILFM qualification preferred but not essential
