Job summary

City of Mission Texas seeks a Water Plant Operator Trainee to assist in operating and maintaining the city’s water system under close supervision. You will help control treatment plant equipment to purify water for human consumption and industrial use.

You will learn to monitor computer panels, regulate flow, and add disinfectants under guidance, collect daily samples, and perform basic lab tests. The role requires a high school diploma and English proficiency, with plans to obtain D and C

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have English communication skills to at least 9th grade level.
• Enrollment in a course leading to Class D certificate of competency from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one year of hire.
• Must obtain a D certification within one year and a C surface water certification within two years; failure may lead to termination.

Responsibilities

• Maintain water system under close supervision.
• Operate and control plant to purify and clarify water for consumption and industrial use.
• Monitor and adjust computer panel and valves to regulate flow.
• Add chemicals to disinfect and treat water as directed.
• Collect water samples and perform daily lab tests.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Follow city policies, safety procedures and proper office procedures.
• Mow the front lawn of the water plant as required.
