Job summary

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Site Waste Operative to manage clinical, general, recyclable, confidential, and linen waste across our hospital sites in Eastbourne.

You will perform scheduled waste collections from wards and departments, respond to ad-hoc requests, and operate compactors and balers in line with health and safety standards. The role includes night-time disposal room cleaning and supporting a safe hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with hospital waste segregation and disposal.
• Ability to follow health and safety regulations and Trust policies.
• Willingness to work night shifts to clean disposal rooms.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled waste collections from wards, departments and designated waste rooms.
• Respond to ad-hoc waste collection requests as required.
• Operate waste management equipment such as compactors and cardboard balers.
• Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and Trust policies.
• Clear all waste streams produced within a hospital, including sharps and hazardous waste.

Job description

To remove all waste streams from disposal rooms and ensure waste is segregated correctly. Cleaning disposal rooms at night.

As a Site Waste Operative, you will play an important role in maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant hospital environment across our sites. Working as part of the Facilities Logistics Services team, you will be responsible for the collection, transportation, segregation, and disposal of a variety of waste streams, including clinical, general, recyclable, confidential, and linen waste.

You will carry out scheduled waste collections from wards, departments, and designated waste rooms, while also responding to ad-hoc requests as required. The role includes operating waste management equipment such as compactors and cardboard balers, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with health and safety regulations and Trust policies.

This position is for a waste porter to clear all waste streams produced within a hospital, including sharps and hazardous waste.

The use of compactors and balers is part of this role and manual handling.

This position will also include cleaning disposal rooms at night.
