Job summary

OCS UK & Ireland is seeking a Porter based at Cambridge Bio Medical Campus (Royal Papworth Hospital) to support facilities services, move goods and furniture, set up rooms and assist with basic site tasks across client environments.

The role requires flexibility, reliability and a proactive approach, with the ability to work Monday to Friday and collaborate with site teams to maintain high service standards, safety compliance and efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
  • Previous porter/facilities or similar support experience is desirable.
  • Good understanding of health & safety and manual handling practices.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Good problem solving skills and willingness to support a range of tasks.
  • Physical capability for manual handling including moving furniture and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manoeuvring and emptying waste around the building.
  • Replacing clock batteries and assisting with minor maintenance tasks.
  • Setting up and rearranging office layouts, including furniture moves.
  • Preparing meeting and conference rooms by connecting laptops, teleconference phones, and other equipment via the Helpdesk.
  • Ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and in line with site procedures.

Job description

Days of Working

This position will be based at Cambridge Bio Medical Campus, Royal Papworth Hospital, working Mon - Fri 07:30 to 15:30 one week then 14:00 to 22:00 the following week alternatively.

As a Porter, you will play an important role in supporting the day‑to‑day operation of facilities services, ensuring that spaces are safe, functional and ready for use. You will be responsible for the movement of goods, equipment and furniture, as well as supporting room setups and basic site tasks across a variety of client environments.

This is a hands‑on, varied role that requires flexibility, reliability and a proactive approach, working closely with site teams to respond to operational needs and maintain high service standards.

As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to
  • Manouvering and emptying waste around the building.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria
  • Right to Work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
  • Previous experience in a portering, facilities or similar support role (desirable but not essential)
  • A good understanding of health & safety and manual handling practices
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide range of people
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work
  • Good problem solving skills and a willingness to support a range of tasks
  • Physical capability to carry out manual handling duties, including moving furniture and equipment
Desirable
  • Basic maintenance or facilities experience
  • Experience working within Facilities Management (FM) or multi site environments
