Job summary

HSL at the NEC in Birmingham is seeking a Bin Operative for a temporary contract of approximately two months. The role offers £12.71 per hour, working Monday to Friday 08:00-16:30, with no weekend work. You will support day-to-day bin and waste operations and contribute to a clean, safe working environment at the site.

Ideal candidates are physically fit, hands-on, reliable and team-focused, able to follow established health and safety procedures and work well under supervision.

Qualifications

• Experience in warehouse, waste, recycling or similar environment beneficial but not essential.
• Forklift licence would be advantageous but not essential.
• Good level of physical fitness for manual handling and standing all day.
• Reliable and punctual; able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day bin and waste operations.
• Handle and sort waste materials, primarily fabric and cardboard.
• Break down cardboard and fabric for baler preparation.
• Operate baler following training and procedures.
• Keep waste areas clean, tidy and organized.
• Move materials and waste as required.
• Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
• Work as part of a team to maintain a clean, efficient environment.

Bin Operative / Waste Operative - Temporary Contract

Location: NEC, Birmingham

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Contract: Temporary - Approximately 2 months

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:30

Weekend Work: None

We are currently looking for a reliable and hardworking Bin Operative / Waste Operative to support our client at the NEC in Birmingham on a temporary contract for approximately two months.

The role will involve assisting with general bin and waste operations, keeping the working area clean and organised, and carrying out general duties associated with the waste area.

This would suit someone who is physically fit, hands‑on, reliable, and comfortable working as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting with day‑to‑day bin and waste operations.
• Handling and sorting waste materials, primarily fabric and cardboard.
• Breaking down cardboard and fabric materials ready to be placed into a baler.
• Operating the baler following appropriate training and procedures.
• Keeping the waste and surrounding areas clean, tidy and organised.
• Moving materials and waste as required.
• Carrying out general related duties to support the smooth running of the waste operation.
• Following all relevant health and safety procedures.
• Working as part of a team to maintain a clean and efficient working environment.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a warehouse, waste, recycling, facilities or similar environment would be beneficial, but is not essential.
• A forklift licence would be an advantage but is not essential.
• Good level of physical fitness, as the role involves manual handling and being on your feet throughout the working day.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• A positive and hardworking attitude.
• Good awareness of health and safety.
