Job summary

South Norfolk and Broadland Councils are seeking a dedicated driver to operate a refuse collection/food waste vehicle and supervise a small crew. You will work across multiple waste streams, follow health and safety procedures, and ensure compliance with HGV licence requirements.

The role involves early mornings, late afternoons, and some weekends, with flexible working arrangements where needed. A safety-critical role with random Drugs and Alcohol testing, and a closing date of 17 September

Qualifications

• Hold a full Cat C HGV licence with a current CPC licence.
• Demonstrable experience in regular HGV driving, preferably in a similar role.
• Ability to undertake repetitive manual lifting.
• Follow procedures, complete tasks, and accept direction.
• Working knowledge of health and safety operational requirements.
• Lead by example and supervise a crew throughout the shift.
• Assess local road conditions to minimise traffic disruption.

Responsibilities

• Collect multiple waste streams in line with Council methods.
• Supervise the crew and ensure safety and best practice.
• Complete vehicle checks before/after shifts and report faults.
• Meet transport management requirements and service targets.
• Carry out necessary paperwork and weigh- related admin.
• Respond to missed waste and address illegals tipping when needed.
