Job summary

Gist Ltd in Hemel Hempstead is hiring a Warehouse Shift Manager to lead a high-volume operation at the Hemel Maylands depot. You’ll own recruitment, induction and day-to-day payroll tasks while driving KPI performance and safety.

You’ll manage a team, collaborate with agencies, plan resources and continuously improve efficiency, with a focus on people and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Experience managing warehouse functions within FMCG distribution.
• Experience at management level is a must.
• Ability to lead teams and drive a positive culture.
• Comfort with shift patterns and working hours.

Responsibilities

• Own the recruitment and induction process for new warehouse colleagues.
• Conduct daily payroll-related administration and queries.
• Drive shift performance through team leaders to achieve KPIs.
• Plan operations in line with live volumes and resources.
• Ensure safety, health, environment and quality requirements are met and escalated if needed.
• Maintain a safe, collaborative working environment for all staff and contractors.
• Manage direct reports across multiple areas, including wellbeing and disciplinary processes.
• Lead shift briefings and collaborate with agencies for appropriate resourcing.
• Review plans and system maintenance against live volumes.
• Identify and review training and development needs; organise operational meetings.

We're looking for motivated and results-driven individual to join our expanding team of Warehouse Shift Managers at our Hemel Hempstead (Maylands) depot. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a fast-paced, high-volume operation where people are at the heart of everything we do. Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum (DOE)

Hours: 40.25hours per week

Working Pattern: Days

Working Hours: 06:00 AM to 18:00 PM

Location: Gist Ltd, Hemel Maylands, Three Cherry Trees Lane, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, HP2 7PZ

What You’ll Be Doing

• Own the recruitment and induction process within the warehouse department of new colleagues
• Conduct Daily administration tasks in relation to payroll systems, payroll queries holidays etc
• Drive shift performance through the team leaders to achieve KPIs
• Forward planning of operation and delivery of plan in line with live volumes and resource
• Ensure all requirements relating to safety, health, environment and quality are being fully implemented in the warehouse or escalate
• Maintaining a safe and friendly working environment for all employees, agency and subcontractors
• Manage direct reports in a variety of areas, including but not limited to
• Wellbeing meetings, long term sick management, return to work and disciplinaries
• Shift briefings when required
• Collaborate with 3rd party agencies to ensure appropriate resourcing of operation
• Day to day reviews of plans and system maintenance in line with live volumes
• Ensuring training and development needs are identified and reviewed frequently
• Planning and organising operational, people and safety meetings
• Accident investigations and reporting
• Conduct hazard walks and observations
• Maintain and improve performance levels to maximise efficiency of operation in line with account KPI's

What we're looking for

• Thorough knowledge and hands on experience of a warehouse function within the FMCG Distribution Industry
• A background operating at a management level is a must
• A passion for encouraging teamwork, focusing on creating an innovative culture where all employees can voice their suggestions and ideas
• Excellent team management skill for developing Team Leaders
• An analytical mind-set
• Flexibility to cover a variety of shift patterns in the future
• You'll come in to contact with Trade Unions (previous experience with this would be beneficial)
