Job summary

Yolk Recruitment Ltd in Chesterfield is sourcing a Warehouse Shift Coordinator to assist a Shift Leader in daily operations. You will oversee a small team, coordinate picking and loading, and ensure deliveries depart on time while maintaining safety and quality standards.

You will support training, monitor KPIs, and help sustain high performance and efficient warehouse processes. The role includes occasional forklift operation and stock control duties, with a route to leadership development.

Responsibilities

• Support the Shift Leader in coordinating daily warehouse activities for a team of five operatives.
• Oversee picking and loading against schedules to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Provide day-to-day leadership to maintain productivity and high performance.
• Monitor operations and resolve delays or issues with practical solutions.
• Support training and development of operatives for Health & Safety and procedures.
• Monitor KPIs and escalate concerns as required.
• Maintain housekeeping, quality and safety standards across the warehouse.
• Coordinate breaks and shift handovers to minimise disruption.
• Operate Counterbalance Forklift when required to support the team.
• Assist with stock control and month/year-end counts and records.
• Complete daily reports and update warehouse systems accurately.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to boost efficiency and service.
• Cover for Shift Leader during holidays or absences.

Salary: £32,238 (£16.53 per hour) including 6.66% Shift Allowance + Excellent Benefits

Rotating Shifts: Monday to Friday, 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm (37.5 hours per week)

Yolk Recruitment are supporting a leading manufacturing organisation with the recruitment of a Warehouse Shift Coordinator to join their team in Chesterfield.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Warehouse Operative, Senior Warehouse Operative or Warehouse Team Leader who enjoys taking responsibility, supporting colleagues and ensuring warehouse operations run smoothly.

Working alongside the Shift Leader, you'll help coordinate a small team of five warehouse operatives, ensuring daily picking and loading activities are completed efficiently, deliveries leave on time and high standards of Health & Safety, quality and performance are maintained.

This is what you'll be doing

As Warehouse Shift Coordinator, you'll support the Shift Leader in overseeing daily warehouse activities, coordinating the team and ensuring picking, loading and dispatch operations run efficiently against established schedules.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the Shift Leader in coordinating the daily activities of a team of five warehouse operatives, ensuring workloads are allocated effectively and operational priorities are achieved.
• Overseeing picking and loading activities against pre-planned schedules, ensuring orders are prepared accurately and deliveries leave site on time.
• Providing day-to-day leadership and support to warehouse operatives, helping maintain productivity, teamwork and high standards of performance.
• Monitoring warehouse operations, identifying delays or operational issues and working with the Shift Leader to implement practical solutions.
• Supporting the training, coaching and development of warehouse operatives, ensuring employees follow correct working procedures and Health & Safety requirements.
• Monitoring daily performance, loading targets and operational KPIs, communicating progress and escalating concerns where required.
• Maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, product quality and housekeeping throughout the warehouse.
• Coordinating staff breaks and shift handovers to maintain workflow and minimise disruption to warehouse operations.
• Operating a Counterbalance Forklift Truck when required, supporting the wider warehouse team with day-to-day activities.
• Supporting stock control activities, including month-end and year-end stock counts and maintaining accurate warehouse records.
• Completing daily reports, updating warehouse systems and ensuring operational information is recorded accurately.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to improve warehouse efficiency, reduce waste and maintain service standards.
• Taking responsibility for the warehouse team and operations in the absence of the Shift Leader, including holiday cover.
• Undertaking shunter training to support occasional vehicle movements within the site, where required.

The experience you'll bring

• Previous experience working within a warehouse, distribution or manufacturing environment.
• Experience as a Senior Warehouse Operative, Warehouse Team Leader, Shift Coordinator or similar position, ideally with some responsibility for supporting or supervising colleagues.
• A valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence - a copy will be required as part of the application process.
• Good understanding of warehouse operations, picking, loading, stock control and dispatch processes.
• Experience of coordinating daily workloads, supporting colleagues and ensuring operational targets are achieved.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and respond effectively to changing demands.
• A proactive, hands‑on approach with a strong focus on Health & Safety, quality and teamwork.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate warehouse records and reports.
• Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Experience using SAP warehouse systems, particularly EWM or ECC, would be advantageous but is not essential.
• A full driving licence and willingness to undertake shunter training.

• £16.53 per hour including 6.66% shift allowance
• £15.50 per hour basic rate, plus shift allowance
• 37.5-hour working week Monday to Friday
