About the Role:
As a Warehouse Operative, you will support day-to-day warehouse operations, from receiving and storing goods to picking, packing, and dispatching orders. You will use forklifts and warehouse management systems to move stock efficiently and safely, while maintaining high standards of accuracy and housekeeping. Your work will have a direct impact on service levels, ensuring orders are fulfilled correctly and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts to load, unload, and move stock within the warehouse in line with safety procedures.
- Pick and pack customer orders accurately using handheld devices or pick lists.
- Carry out manual handling and lifting tasks safely, including stacking, palletising, and organising stock.
- Use warehouse management systems (WMS) to record stock movements, update inventory, and process orders.
- Assist with goods-in and goods-out activities, including checking deliveries and preparing items for dispatch.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment, including regular housekeeping tasks.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, reporting any hazards, incidents, or equipment issues promptly.
- Support stock checks and cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory levels.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- Valid and in-date forklift truck licence (e.g. counterbalance and/or reach).
- Confident operating forklifts in a busy warehouse setting.
- Strong order picking and packing experience with a focus on accuracy and speed.
- Physically fit and comfortable with regular manual handling and lifting tasks.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems or handheld scanning devices.
- Solid understanding of health and safety practices in a warehouse environment.
- Flexible and reliable approach, able to work shifts and adapt to changing priorities.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in a high-volume distribution centre or similar fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of different storage systems (racking, bulk storage, etc.).
- Experience working to performance targets and KPIs.
- Basic IT skills for data entry and stock control.
Qualifications:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Valid forklift truck certification from a recognised training provider.
- Manual handling training or certification (preferred).
- Health and safety training such as basic H&S awareness or similar (preferred).
