Job summary

Kingdom Services Group in Wigan is seeking a Warehouse Operative to handle stock, receive deliveries, pick, pack and dispatch goods in a fast-paced warehouse environment. You will operate pallet trucks and other equipment after training, maintain accurate stock records, follow health and safety rules, and work effectively with the team to meet daily targets and ensure smooth operations.

Job Description

The role of Warehouse Operative involves the efficient handling, storing, and dispatching of goods within a warehouse environment. The post holder is responsible for ensuring all stock is processed accurately and safely, maintaining an organised workspace, and supporting the overall logistics and supply chain activities. This position requires a proactive approach to meet daily targets and contribute to the smooth operation of the warehouse.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive, unload, and check incoming deliveries against delivery notes and purchase orders.
• Store goods in designated locations, ensuring stock is organised and easily accessible.
• Pick and pack orders according to specified instructions, ensuring accuracy and quality standards are met.
• Prepare goods for despatch, including labelling and wrapping to prevent damage during transit.
• Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet trucks, forklifts and trolleys safely and competently, after appropriate training and authorisation.
• Maintain accurate stock records using manual or electronic systems, reporting discrepancies or damaged goods promptly.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Assist with stock takes and inventory checks as required.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to ensure operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Valid Health and Safety awareness certification is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

Experience

• Previous experience working in a warehouse or logistics environment is advantageous but not essential; full training will be offered.
• Experience using warehouse management systems or stock control software is beneficial.

Knowledge and Skills

• Basic understanding of warehouse operations and stock handling procedures.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately and work to tight deadlines.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Physical fitness and the ability to carry out manual handling tasks safely.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills to interact with colleagues and supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in operating warehouse machinery safely.

Working Conditions

• The role requires full-time availability, with shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends or bank holidays as operational needs dictate.
• The environment is an active warehouse setting where the post holder will be required to stand, walk, bend, lift and carry goods frequently throughout the shift.
• Proper personal protective equipment will be provided and must be worn as required.
• The role may involve exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels typical of warehouse operations.
