Job description

Warehouse Manager | Worthing | Full Time | Monday to Friday, with no weekend work required | Up to £40,000 DOE

Jones & Tomlin is a fully independent, family-run business specialising in beds, mattresses, and bedroom furniture for over 70 years.

We are seeking a Warehouse Manager who will report directly to the Managing Director and General Manager for strategic direction and operational support. This role holds full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the warehouse, which specialises in the storage, handling, and dispatch of beds and furniture.

The successful candidate will lead and motivate a team of warehouse operatives to ensure efficient goods-in and goods-out processes, careful handling of bulky and often expensive items, and the maintenance of accurate inventory records.

A strong focus on health and safety, space optimisation, and delivery readiness is essential. Key performance indicators include stock accuracy, order fulfilment rates, damage reduction, turnaround times, and team productivity.

What can Jones & Tomlin give to you?

  • Join a well-established and growing company with a strong reputation in the furniture industry
  • Become part of a supportive, dedicated, and hardworking team that values collaboration and commitment
  • Take the opportunity to apply and expand your existing skills in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
  • Play a key role in shaping operational success and contributing to continuous improvement across the business
  • Be recognised for your efforts and have the chance to make a real impact in a visible leadership role

Are you the right person for the job?

  • Proven experience in warehouse management and administration, ideally within a furniture or bulky goods environment
  • Strong planning, route coordination, and organisational skills, with the ability to optimise delivery schedules, vehicle loads, and delegate tasks effectively
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, including manual handling procedures and warehouse safety protocols
  • Leadership experience, with a proven ability to manage, train, and develop warehouse staff
  • Computer literate, with working knowledge of inventory management systems (WMS), Microsoft Office, and logistics software
  • Meticulous attention to detail, a proactive hands-on work ethic, and strong problem-solving abilities to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of liaising effectively across all levels of the business and with external partners
  • A full UK driving licence is highly beneficial
  • Experience in managing large or heavy-item logistics is highly desirable

What will your role look like?

  • Oversee stock management, including the accurate receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods
  • Ensure all inventory databases and warehouse systems are updated in a timely and accurate manner – FRS / Swan experience would be beneficial but not essential
  • Plan and coordinate daily delivery routes, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and on-time performance
  • Conduct regular stock takes and audits to maintain inventory accuracy and support loss prevention
  • Manage inbound and outbound logistics, including booking, receiving, dispatching, and processing delivery paperwork
  • Perform inspection of incoming and outgoing products, identifying any damage, defects, or discrepancies
  • Conduct quality control checks on furniture items and ensure they meet company standards before delivery
  • Implement and enforce Health & Safety procedures within the scope of training, maintaining a clean, safe, and organised warehouse environment
  • Supervise and support warehouse operatives, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to company procedures
  • Liaise with customer service, transport teams, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and prompt issue resolution
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process inefficiencies and recommending solutions
