Job description

Hales Group is working with a fun and friendly new client based in Attleborough, Norfolk, assisting them in seeking a reliable and proactive Warehouse Assistant to support day-to-day logistics and materials handling in a busy carpentry manufacturing environment.

The role is hands-on and varied, requiring someone with a good understanding of workshop operations, stock control, and a strong commitment to health and safety. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth workflow across production, dispatch, and delivery processes.

Warehouse Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Receive deliveries and check them against purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Safely unload and store raw materials, fixings, sheet timber, and manufactured items.
  • Prepare finished goods for dispatch, ensuring packaging and documentation are correct.
  • Monitor stock levels and notify operations teams of low inventory.
  • Organise and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Conduct regular stock checks and audits.
  • Operate the Container Management System (CMS) & Project software systems.
  • Move materials and components between departments (e.g., from warehouse to workshop).
  • Assist joiners or site crews in loading/unloading for site installations.
  • Keep workshop and storage areas tidy, clear, and organised.
  • Attend team meetings.
  • Support project delivery team.

Follow all company safety procedures, including manual handling and use of PPE. Report hazards or incidents promptly. Ensure clear walkways and safe storage of materials. Assist in booking deliveries and collections with couriers or in-house drivers. Support project and site teams by coordinating material availability. Maintain basic tools register and ensure warehouse equipment (e.g., pallet trucks, forklifts) is in working condition. Report any faults or maintenance needs.

Warehouse Assistant Skills and Attributes:
  • Previous warehouse or workshop experience (ideally within joinery, carpentry, or construction) minimum of three years.
  • Process driven and calm under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Physically fit as the role can be demanding and works with heavy materials.
  • Basic IT systems or warehouse systems are essential.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Decision-making skills and ability to express ideas.
  • Be an all-round team player.
