Job summary

Cygnet Hospital Godden Green in Kent near Sevenoaks is seeking an experienced Ward Manager (RMN) to lead Castle Ward (13-bed female PICU) and drive safe, compassionate care. You will work 37.5 hours weekly (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), oversee clinical delivery, policy implementation and multi-disciplinary collaboration with NHS referrals.

Applicants should hold an RMN with an NMC pin, proven leadership in inpatient settings, and a focus on patient recovery and risk management.

Qualifications

• Qualified RMN with a valid NMC pin number.
• Inpatient/PICU experience preferred.
• Experience leading teams and driving improvement initiatives.
• Open, compassionate, honest and resilient.
• Familiar with safeguarding and risk management in mental health care.
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and current nursing practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide the highest standard of nursing care and be a role model to junior staff.
• Coordinate all clinical aspects of the ward and ensure collaboration between departments.
• Implement clinical and administrative policies and regulations.
• Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulations by others.
• Support staff through debriefs, appraisals, training and evidence-based practice development.
• Lead the unit coordinator rota and act as first point of contact outside normal hours.
• Lead by example to maintain high standards of clinical care and documentation.

We are looking for an ambitious and empowering Ward Manager (RMN) to join us at Cygnet Hospital Godden Green.

You’ll be working 37.5 hours a week (Monday Friday 9am 5pm) on Castle Ward.

Castle Ward is a 13 bed female PICU at Cygnet Hospital Godden Green and accepts emergency and crisis admissions. Referrals are accepted from all areas, including acute and prison services.

Our aim is a short, rapid intervention to help service users regain a sense of control and order in their lives, so they can move to a less restrictive care setting and ultimately return home.

Cygnet Hospital Godden Green provides specialist mental health acute and PICU services for women. The hospital is situated in the beautiful countryside of the Kent Weald, near Sevenoaks. We have extensive grounds which help us provide a calm and therapeutic environment.

Working closely with the NHS we accept emergency and crisis admissions. Referrals are accepted from all areas, including acute and prison services. We pride ourselves in delivering safe and therapeutic care with a drive to develop our service users to live independently in the community. We create safety and support by engaging positively in a collaborative way and hold Co-production at the heart of all we do.

Your day-to-day…

• Provide the highest standard of nursing care & be a role model to junior staff
• Co-ordinate all clinical aspects of the ward & ensure co-operation between clinical departments
• Implement clinical & administrative policies, procedures & regulations
• Ensure compliance by others of policies, procedures & regulations
• Support staff through debriefs, appraisals, training, meetings & development of evidence/ research-based practice
• Participate unit coordinator rota system to provide the first point of contact for ward‑based staff, outside of normal working hours
• Lead by example to ensure consistently high standards of clinical care & documentation

You will have…

Essential

• A qualified RMN with a valid NMC pin number
• Committed to delivering improvement strategies across all aspects of clinical service provision
• Familiar with in an inpatient setting (preferably experience of working in a Acute/PICU setting)
• Experienced in managing change, leadership initiatives, motivating & developing others
• Experienced working with service users with personality disorder
• Open, compassionate, honest & resilient
• Capable of undertaking audits, developing, following-up & ensuring completion of action plans
• Well informed of the Mental Health Act 1983 & the latest nursing practices
• Focused on patient recovery to monitor, manage & reduce risk
