Job summary

Brainkind Neurological Centre York seeks an experienced Ward Manager to lead a dedicated nursing team in a specialist neurorehabilitation setting.

You will provide clinical and operational leadership, ensuring safe, person-centred care while developing a high-performing multidisciplinary team in a modern facility.

Qualifications

• Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience in Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Manager, Clinical Lead or Senior Nurse roles.
• Strong clinical leadership within a healthcare or specialist care setting.
• Experience developing nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
• Solid understanding of clinical governance, safeguarding, risk management and safe practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day clinical and operational leadership for the ward, ensuring high-quality care.
• Lead, motivate and develop the nursing and care team with a positive clinical culture.
• Provide expert clinical leadership and role model evidence-based practice.
• Oversee care delivery for people with complex neurological, behavioural and rehabilitation needs.
• Coordinate care with the wider multidisciplinary team including admissions and discharge planning.
• Maintain standards across governance, safeguarding, risk management and patient safety.

Brainkind is looking for an experienced and compassionateWard Managerto lead a dedicated nursing team at ourNeurological Centre in York, supporting people living with acquired brain injuries and complex neurological needs.

This is a key clinical leadership position combininghands-on nursing leadership, people management, quality and governance, and operational responsibility. You will have the autonomy to lead your ward, develop your team and ensure the people we support receive safe, effective and genuinely person-centred care.

About our York service

Brainkind Neurological Centre York provides specialist support for people living withacquired brain injury and complex neurological needs.

The people we support may experience a combination of cognitive, physical, behavioural and emotional difficulties, including impaired social functioning, disinhibition and behaviours that may challenge.

You will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team within a modern specialist environment where rehabilitation, recovery, independence and quality of life are at the centre of care.

The role

As Ward Manager, you will take responsibility for theclinical and operational leadership of the ward, ensuring consistently high standards of nursing care and providing visible leadership to the nursing and care team.

You will lead from the front, combining strong clinical judgement with effective people management and creating an environment in which both colleagues and the people we support can thrive.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing day-to-dayclinical and operational leadershipfor the ward, maintaining safe, effective and high-quality standards of care.
• Leading, motivating and developing the nursing and care team, creating a positive, accountable and supportive clinical culture.
• Providing expert clinical leadership and acting as a positive role model for evidence-based, person-centred practice.
• Overseeing the delivery of care for people withcomplex neurological, behavioural and rehabilitation needs.
• Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate effective care, rehabilitation, admissions and discharge planning.
• Maintaining strong standards acrossclinical governance, safeguarding, risk management, quality and patient safety.
• Ensuring appropriate staffing levels and managing rotas, sickness, annual leave, recruitment and retention.
• Providing effective supervision, mentorship, preceptorship and professional development for nursing colleagues.
• Supporting newly qualified nurses and students to develop their clinical confidence and capability.
• Identifying opportunities to improve quality, outcomes and the experience of the people we support.
• Building positive relationships with families, carers, professionals and external stakeholders.
• Supporting effective budget management and contributing to the wider development and objectives of the service.

About you

We are looking for a credible and confident clinical leader who can combineexcellent nursing practice with strong team leadership.

You will ideally have:

• CurrentNMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
• Experience working atWard Manager, Deputy Ward Manager, Clinical Lead, Senior Nurse or equivalent level.
• Strong clinical leadership experience within a healthcare or specialist care environment.
• Experience managing and developing nursing and/or multidisciplinary care teams.
• A strong understanding ofclinical governance, safeguarding, risk management and safe clinical practice.
• Experience supporting people with complex clinical, neurological, behavioural, rehabilitation or mental health needs.
• The ability to lead through challenge, maintain high clinical standards and build an engaged and accountable team.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively with families, multidisciplinary professionals and external stakeholders.

Previous neurorehabilitation or acquired brain injury experience would be highly advantageous, but we also welcome applications from experienced clinical leaders with relevant transferable experience from other complex healthcare settings.

This could be an excellent next step for an established Ward Manager or an experiencedDeputy Ward Manager or Clinical Leadwho is ready to progress into a broader leadership position.
