Job summary

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a nurse to deputise for the Ward Manager on a ward or department for six months. The role concentrates on day-to-day operations, patient flow, staffing, rota planning and clinical governance.

You will lead the nursing team, supervise junior staff, support appraisal and development, and contribute to audits and quality improvement while ensuring safe, compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse on the NMC Part 1 register.
• Leadership and mentorship courses completed.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care with patients, families and the MDT.
• Coordinate care delivery across the ward/ department to meet patient needs.
• Deputise for the Ward Manager and manage day-to-day running, including patient flow.
• Act as a clinical role model, giving specialist advice to colleagues and families.
• Lead and coordinate the nursing team; supervise junior staff and students.
• Manage workforce matters including appraisal, attendance, and sickness.
• Maintain accurate patient records in line with Trust policy and legal requirements.
• Provide clear information to patients so they can participate in decisions about care.
• Monitor standards, undertake audits and support quality improvement.
• Investigate incidents/complaints and implement actions to improve safety.
