About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Ward Catering Assistant to join our team. You will work as an integral part of the patient dining team, ensuring a high-quality food and beverage service is provided to patients. The role involves coordinating meal and beverage services in line with the ward's timing schedule while maintaining a hygienic and clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure patients are provided with meals, snacks, and beverages at the agreed intervals throughout the day.
- Take patient food orders using the tablet electronic ordering system at the scheduled times.
- Maintain and clean bedside menus daily, ensuring special and therapeutic menus are available and presented to patients who require them.
- Prepare and serve hot/cold beverages, ensuring all are served at the correct temperature as per food hygiene regulations.
- Load and monitor regeneration ovens, and record food temperatures accordingly.
- Remove all cutlery, crockery, and condiments from patient areas after every meal and beverage service.
- Wash utensils, cutlery, trays, and crockery used for meal and beverage preparation, regeneration, and serving.
- Maintain hygiene standards in the ward kitchen, ensuring it is clean and compliant with regulations.
- Monitor and record fridge and freezer temperatures daily, reporting any issues when necessary.
- Ensure patients who are not medically restricted have access to fresh drinking water, with two water jug changes per day, including ad-hoc top-ups.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards, applying food safety procedures in the workplace.
- Interact courteously with patients and staff to enhance patient food and beverage consumption.
- Complete all required documentation and work records accurately and in accordance with health, safety, and quality procedures.
- Perform any other duties assigned by your Team Leader, Supervisor, or Manager within your skillset and responsibilities.
Essential Criteria:
- Basic education, including reading and writing skills.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety.
- Experience working in a food service or catering environment.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Awareness of hygiene standards, food safety, and special dietary requirements.
