Job summary

Nuffield Health Haywards Heath Hospital in Haywards Heath is looking for a Ward Catering Assistant to join the Sodexo team and provide nutritious patient meals with warm, patient‑facing service. You will help keep kitchens clean and ensure safe, accurate meal delivery in a hospital setting.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability and compliance with food safety standards, with shifts across early and late patterns and a permanent contract.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a similar role or willingness to learn.
• A Food Safety Level 2 certificate (or equivalent) or willingness to achieve this.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a friendly, high-quality meal service to patients, ensuring dignity, care and excellent customer service.
• Prepare, assemble and serve patient meals accurately, including special dietary requirements.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and infection prevention in line with hospital and company policies.
• Complete food temperature checks, quality records and other required documentation accurately.
• Keep ward kitchens, catering equipment and work areas clean, safe and well stocked.
• Support stock rotation, waste reduction and the safe transportation of food trolleys.
• Work as part of a team, following instructions and helping with other catering duties as required.

• Shift Times : 7 am - 1 pm OR 1 pm - 8 pm

• Good communication and listening skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and work efficiently.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
• Good timekeeping, reliability and a flexible approach to supporting the team.
• A willingness to learn and complete required training, including maintaining mandatory standards.
• A Food Safety Level 2 certificate (or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve this.
