  • Attend meetings with parents, coaches, and students.

Job description

Role Title: Volunteer Teacher (BTec level 1 OR GCSE English, Maths or Science) 6 hours a week max.
Department: Academy
Reports to: Head of Education
Key Internal Relationships: Head of Education, Head of Player Care, Academy Head Coaches, Academy Players & Staff

Placement Description:
The role of Volunteer Teacher involves working with our Hybrid Day Release students on a Tuesday afternoon (BTec 1 in Sports Studies) or Friday afternoon to support GCSE students with English, Maths and Science with either a Master Class or individual 1 to 1 support, depending on exam body. You will be required to undergo a Walsall FC Enhanced DBS check.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of material & delivery of hard copy BTec level 1 in Sports Studies OR GCSE English, Maths and Science material.
  • Marking of hard copy work book, recording and maintaining records
  • Be aware of the club’s Child Protection Policy, Health & Safety Policy and Emergency procedures, taking responsibility for Health & Safety aspects at all times.
  • To attend any meetings with parents, coaches and children where appropriate.
  • Take registers.
  • To be responsible for the care of materials, equipment and facilities.
  • To work with our education partners (U13s, U14s only)
  • Be punctual at all times with a positive and engaging approach.
  • To set high standards of professionalism at all times and in line with the Academy and Club Values.
  • Complete all work/tasks to deadline in a timely manner
  • Any other duties as may be required by the Club from time to time
About The Candidate

Person Specification:

  • QTS or similar
  • Experience of BTec style delivery, marking and assessment OR GCSE Teaching of English, Maths and Science
  • Experience of planning, managing delivery and exam prep
  • Experience of lesson planning to timeframe and unit delivery
  • If the GCSE English, Maths or Science Teacher you must have been teaching these subjects for at least three full education years
  • Experience of 1 to 1 student support.
  • Understanding and commitment to safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • An interest and understanding of Sport and or Football (OR English, Maths or Science)
  • Willingness to learn and develop through continuous professional development (CPD).
  • A commitment to the Club's Environmental Sustainability Policy and contributing to its goals.

These volunteer roles are a fantastic opportunity to work within a professional football environment either through CPD (just a few hours a week within your current role), work with small groups (aprox 15), pass on your knowledge and skills after retirement or looking to return to work or a PGCE student wanting experience / placement opportunities.
