Job description

Job Details: Volunteer SMART (co)Facilitator

Waythrough, launched in October 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship, aims to break down barriers to support for individuals seeking to live fulfilling lives. We address poverty and disadvantage through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing, and related support services.

With nearly 200 services across England, supported by approximately 3,500 staff and volunteers, we assist around 125,000 people annually.

As we integrate our systems and processes post-merger, some branding may still reflect 'Humankind'.

Location

Weymouth Coffee Tavern, Weymouth, DT4 8JH

Role Overview

We seek one or two volunteers to facilitate SMART Recovery meetings within our West Dorset team. The role is suitable for individuals with lived experience of recovery or those empathetic towards individuals overcoming addiction. Volunteers will facilitate or co-facilitate meetings, welcome newcomers, and encourage participation.

Meetings are held in Weymouth on Thursday mornings, Dorchester on Fridays at lunchtime, and online on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with flexible support options.

Key Tasks
  • Establish group agreements emphasizing respect and confidentiality.
  • Facilitate meetings following the SMART Recovery structure, including check-ins, agenda setting, and check-outs.
  • Report concerns related to safeguarding or other issues.
  • Collaborate with the group lead for planning and evaluation.
  • Procure necessary resources like flip charts, paper, and pens.
  • Assist with tasks such as SMART audits and liaising with the Regional SMART Community Coordinator.

Applicants should have good communication skills, an interest in group support, empathy for those in recovery, and basic IT skills. Volunteers will complete approximately 20 hours of online training via SMART Recovery UK, in addition to mandatory Waythrough training.

Benefits
  • Supervision and ongoing support
  • Training opportunities, both online and face-to-face
  • Skill development within a team environment
  • Being part of the wider Waythrough community
  • Reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses
