My client is a well-established, growing charity retailer. They currently have an exciting opportunity to join them as a Volunteer Engagement Manager, a newly created position.

The Volunteer Engagement Manager is a key part of the Retail management team, working closely with shop management and HR teams. Responsibilities include recruiting, organizing, and coordinating volunteers and the volunteer program, working with shop managers to develop skills, drive recruitment, improve retention, and ensure appropriate volunteer distribution across locations to support the charity's work.

Role Responsibilities

  1. Achieve recruitment targets for each shop to ensure sufficient volunteers and hours to meet financial goals.
  2. Support volunteer onboarding for various retail roles.
  3. Engage volunteers with the charity’s mission and help them understand their impact.
  4. Maintain a motivated, well-trained, and engaged volunteer team with excellent communication at all levels.
  5. Participate in in-person recruitment events to connect with the volunteering community.
  6. Coordinate with the Retail HR lead to schedule and deliver online training, ensuring volunteers are prepared and confident.
  7. Collaborate with shop managers to build relationships with volunteers and demonstrate the value of volunteering.
  8. Assist shop managers in maintaining accurate records of volunteer activities and hours, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards.
  9. Demonstrate a proven track record in charity shop volunteer recruitment and retention.
  10. Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build strong relationships with volunteers, staff, and stakeholders.
  11. Be passionate about the benefits of volunteering and understand the challenges involved in volunteer management.
  12. Have experience working with and managing regional volunteer networks.
  13. Show strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  14. Experience with volunteer management software and recruitment platforms is desirable.
  15. Exhibit strong communication and presentation skills.
  16. Be personable with excellent listening skills.
