Role Purpose

At Newlife, we believe every disabled child deserves a better future. For over 30 years, we have been the UK's largest charitable provider of specialist equipment for disabled children and the only one offering an emergency response - delivering essential items within 72 hours. We also operate a national, nurse-staffed helpline, free of charge.

Volunteers play a vital role in delivering our mission. They contribute time, skills, and passion that are essential to our success - from processing stock and supporting fundraising, to raising awareness and enhancing service delivery.

As the Volunteer Centre Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy onsite Volunteer Centre in Cannock. You will supervise a diverse group of up to 32 volunteers daily and lead a team of 3 Volunteer Support Assistants. Volunteers help process donated stock from our retail partners, preparing it for sale across our 9 UK charity stores.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on role requiring a strong, compassionate leader who can manage people, stock, and priorities effectively. Some manual handling is required (lifting boxes, pushing roll cages).
Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Volunteer Centre.
  • Line manage and support 3 Volunteer Support Assistants.
  • Supervise and guide volunteers (including corporate volunteers), ensuring tasks align with their skills and abilities.
  • Manage the flow and quality of stock processed by volunteers.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safeguarding and health & safety standards, including manual handling training.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, including training, contact information, and hours, using the volunteer database.
  • Ensure required equipment and stock are available and ready for volunteer activities.
  • Support the recruitment, induction, and training of new volunteers.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of volunteer engagement and recognition events.
