Job summary

City of York Council is seeking a Cleaning Operative to join the Voids Team. You will perform in-house void cleaning to prepare properties for new customers, with flexibility to adapt hours based on workload and property turnaround needs.

Key duties include cleaning, clearing, operating equipment safely, and maintaining high customer service standards. A full, clean driving licence is desirable, along with COSHH knowledge and health & safety commitment.

Job description

We are looking for a positive, flexible and reliable Cleaning Operative to join our busy Voids Team.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering an efficient in-house void cleaning and clearing service. This service is a vital part of the overall voids process, helping to ensure properties are prepared to a high standard and within agreed timescales to meet customer expectations.

As this is a demand-led service, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to both duties and working hours, responding to fluctuations in workload and property turnaround requirements to support the smooth running of the void management process.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and clear void properties to the required standard.
• Support the efficient turnaround of empty properties.
• Operate cleaning equipment and machinery safely and effectively.
• Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety requirements.
• Deliver high standards of customer service and quality workmanship.

• Previous experience working in a customer-focused environment.
• A strong commitment to excellent customer care and quality service delivery.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and COSHH regulations.
• Experience of clearing and cleaning residential properties.
• Experience in the safe use and operation of cleaning equipment and machinery.
• The ability to lift, move and operate cleaning equipment, furniture and machinery.
• An understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion principles.
• A full, clean driving licence.
