Job summary

Bristol Cathedral is seeking two part-time Visitor Experience Assistants to welcome visitors, sell tour tickets and retail items, and support events at both the Cathedral and the Lord Mayor’s Chapel. The role focuses on delivering a warm, inclusive visitor experience and strong customer service.

Based onsite in Bristol, you’ll answer questions, encourage donations, handle cash and card transactions, and work with volunteers to ensure high standards across visitor spaces.

  • Help maintain safe, clean and welcoming visitor areas.
  • Respond to visitor enquiries and provide information about the Cathedral.

Job description

Part time: 15 hours per week | £13.45 per hour


Bristol Cathedral is recruiting two part-time Visitor Experience Assistants to help deliver an outstanding experience for everyone who visits the Cathedral.


Located in the heart of Bristol, the Cathedral welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Whether someone is attending worship, exploring our history, enjoying a tour, supporting an event or simply seeking a moment of reflection, our Visitor Experience Team helps ensure they receive a warm and memorable welcome.


As a Visitor Experience Assistant, you will be at the heart of that welcome. You will greet visitors, answer questions, encourage donations and Gift Aid, support volunteers, promote tours and retail sales, and help maintain high standards across our visitor spaces. You will also support events and activities taking place at both Bristol Cathedral and the Lord Mayor’s Chapel.


We’re looking for people who genuinely enjoy working with others and take pride in delivering excellent customer service. Strong communication skills, a friendly and proactive approach, and the confidence to engage with a diverse range of visitors are more important than previous Cathedral or heritage experience.


About the Role

Key responsibilities include:



  • Providing a warm, informed and inclusive welcome to visitors

About You

You’ll bring:



  • Experience in a customer-facing role

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A positive, enthusiastic and professional approach

  • Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Confidence handling cash and card transactions


Experience in a heritage attraction, cultural venue, place of worship or charitable organisation would be advantageous but is not essential.

Working Arrangements

Pension

Membership of the Church Workers Pension Scheme, with a 7% employers contribution and 5% employee contribution.


25 days plus bank holidays per year, pro rata for part-time employees. You may be required to work some bank holidays, in which case you will be given this time back in lieu.


Uniform

Postholders are provided with a uniform for this role, compromising of a shirt, fleece and coat. Postholders provide their own smart, black bottom half with smart, dark, comfortable shoes.
