Job summary

The University of Birmingham is seeking a capable laboratory technician to support the EPSRC-funded antivirals project within the School of Chemistry. You will work in a multidisciplinary team, focusing on virology-related experiments and ensuring rigorous safety, compliance, and documentation.

You will contribute to design, synthesis, and analysis tasks, maintain accurate records, and mentor others where needed. The role is full time, fixed term until August 2030, based at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Qualifications

• Prior knowledge of virology and associated techniques.
• Degree level education or equivalent technical qualification.
• Extensive proven practical experience in a relevant scientific/technical field.
• Literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly and analyse information.

Responsibilities

• Manage the experimental (class II) biosafety laboratories within the School of Chemistry.
• Support activities within class I biological labs across the School of Chemistry.
• Advise on techniques and experimental procedures, communicating with researchers and students at various levels.
