Job summary

The University of Birmingham is seeking a skilled technician within the School of Chemistry to support virology-focused research on an EPSRC funded project.

You will contribute to design, synthesis, characterization and testing of polymers as antivirals, assisting in virology labs, maintaining records and upholding health and safety standards; the role is full-time, fixed-term until August 2030, with a salary capped at £35,608 (Grade 6).

Qualifications

• Knowledge of virology and related techniques is essential.
• Educated to Degree level or equivalent qualification with relevant experience.
• Extensive proven practical experience in a scientific/technical role.
• Literacy and numeracy to write clearly and analyse information.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the experimental class II biological laboratories.
• Support activities in class I biological labs within the School of Chemistry.
• Advise on techniques and procedures to researchers and students.
• Diagnose and resolve problems and suggest improvements.
• Maintain accurate records of techniques and results; ensure safety compliance.
