Job summary

Government Recruitment Service invites applications for Laboratory Assistant in APHA’s Virology department. You will support diagnostic studies and research on viral diseases, including avian and swine influenza and Newcastle disease, in biocontainment level 2/3 labs. Training is provided and you may help develop SOPs, manage data, and contribute to quality systems.

This full-time, permanent role offers development through apprenticeships and a strong commitment to safety and public health.

Qualifications

• Conduct and support diagnostic studies and experimental research involving viral diseases.
• Assist with maintenance and management of the test portfolio for viral diseases, including genomic data generation.
• Work in biocontainment level 2 and 3 laboratories using microbiological safety cabinets.
• Maintain safety standards, write risk assessments, and use PPE in BSL-2/BSL-3 facilities.
• Assist with bioinformatics and data analysis of molecular data, including genomic data.

Responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic studies and experimental research on viral diseases.
• Support generation of genomic data and data analyses.
• Operate in BSL-2/3 labs with appropriate safety measures.
• Assist with training workshops for national and international partners.
