Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is seeking a Victim Liaison Officer to support victims and their families through the Victim Contact Scheme (VCS) and Victim Notification Scheme (VNS). You will assess risk, liaise with criminal-justice partners, and ensure informed involvement in decision-making around risk management.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with victims and their families to inform them about key stages and developments in an offender's sentence or hospital order under the VCS and VNS guidance.
• Use computer-based systems to maintain records and documentation relating to victims within agreed timescales.
• Assess risks and needs of victims and their families and implement actions within required timescales, including home or alternate-location visits.
• Identify changes in risk or need and refer to senior managers and professionals where appropriate.
• Carry out safeguarding duties for children and adults in line with statutory responsibilities and agency policies.
• Ensure effective referrals and communication with other probation colleagues and external agencies.
• Represent victims and families in interprofessional meetings to support risk management and safeguarding.
• Support victims to write or present statements to the parole board, in person or remotely.
• Provide training and mentoring to new VLOs and educate professionals about VCS and VNS responsibilities.
• Engage in ongoing learning to keep knowledge current and complete mandatory training.
• Provide cover within the victim liaison unit as required.
