Job Description:

We've been retained by a London-based climate tech company building an AI-powered market intelligence platform. The platform powers decision-making and capital allocation across the energy transition economy and empowers all the players in this landscape including investors, corporates and governments.

We’re helping them hire a VP of Engineering.

Founded in 2023, this company has already grown to $3M ARR and has raised over $7m in funding. They have a 30-person team in London & New York, including research, product & engineering, data, commercial, and operations. Their clients include JPMorgan, Google, Shell and national energy ministries.

The company’s engineering team is now ready for its next chapter: expanding data architecture, scaling ML capabilities, and powering the next generation of product innovation. They need a capable, experienced leader to define the vision & strategy around this going forward.

Job Description

As the VP of Engineering, you will play a critical role in shaping the company’s technical strategy and execution. You will not only guide the engineering team but also actively contribute to the development and execution of the company's strategy. You’ll work directly with the CEO, CPO, and other leaders to define the technical direction of the company while helping scale the team, infrastructure, data, and capabilities.

This is a full-time position working in the Farringdon, London office, 3-4 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Build the technical roadmap to scale the company’s capabilities and redefine market intelligence, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
  • Lead the design, development, and evolution of the company’s technical architecture, ensuring it supports scalability, flexibility, and aligns with long-term business goals.
  • Collaborate closely with the co-founders to identify opportunities where technology can expand product capabilities, enhance datasets, gain a competitive edge, and deliver exceptional value to users.
  • Work alongside product, design, and data teams to turn ideas into actionable, customer-centric solutions that drive the product forward.
  • Ensure the product is designed for scalability by strengthening system performance, optimising infrastructure, and ensuring reliability as the business grows.
  • Balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in solving complex technical challenges, actively contributing to development alongside your team.
  • Foster a collaborative engineering culture by supporting team growth, providing clear direction, coaching, and empowering team members to reach their potential.
  • Lead efforts to incorporate AI, machine learning, and other advanced technologies into the company’s product, ensuring these tools provide tangible value to customers and align with the overall product roadmap.
  • Stay ahead of technological trends to ensure the company remains competitive, adopting the latest tools and technologies while attracting top talent to drive innovation.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 8+ years of engineering experience, including leadership roles in fast-paced environments.
  • Expertise in system architecture, cloud technologies, AI/ML integration, and scalable software platforms.
  • Strong hands-on technical skills with a focus on building robust, high-performance solutions.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and foster a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

And ideally you…

  • Have ample hands-on engineering experience and thrive at the intersection of coding, architecture, and team leadership.
  • You're familiar with fast-paced, evolving environments, balancing speed and scalability.
  • Have experience with large data processing systems and architecture
  • Have experience applying AI/ML technologies to real-world challenges and are eager to advance this in the energy space.
  • Have led small teams, helping engineers grow technically and professionally.
  • Excel at aligning engineering efforts with broader product and business objectives.
  • Measure success by the tangible impact your team delivers to the business and its customers.
  • Are familiar with the stack: Python, DBT, React, Django, OpenAI, AWS and able to advise on how to evolve the stack for scale

Compensation and Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave
  • Pension
  • Opportunity to work, learn, and make an impact at a fast-growing climate tech startup
  • Central London office (Farringdon) in shared workspace 3-4 days per week
  • Visa sponsorship for relevant candidates
