A leading veterinary clinic in Maghera seeks a dedicated veterinary surgeon to join their experienced team. The role offers a diverse caseload, including farm and companion animals, in a supportive environment. Enjoy flexible working patterns and a competitive salary with generous benefits in a beautiful location.
Are you a veterinary surgeon looking for a role that offers real professional satisfaction, a diverse and rewarding caseload, and the support of an experienced, down-to-earth team? At Glenshane Veterinary Clinic, we may just have the perfect opportunity waiting for you.
Whether you're a mixed vet or someone with a strong interest in farm animal work, you'll find your place with us. We’re proud of our collaborative, friendly atmosphere, and we’re looking for someone who values being part of a close-knit team as much as they enjoy the variety of veterinary life.
This is a truly varied position, ideal for a vet who enjoys the balance of large and small animal care. Approximately 65% of the work is focused on farm animal cases—mostly cattle, with some equine—and the remaining 35% centres around companion animals. You’ll be based across our three branches in Maghera, Kilrea, and Dungiven, so a valid driving licence is essential.
You’ll have the chance to form strong client relationships and work with a wide range of species, from farm animals and horses to dogs, cats, and even the occasional exotic pet. No two days are the same, and you’ll be well-supported every step of the way.
Teamwork is at the heart of everything we do. You’ll be joining a welcoming, experienced team of six vets, four of whom have more than 20 years under their belts, alongside our dedicated nurses and support staff. We pride ourselves on maintaining a positive, encouraging environment where collaboration is second nature, and everyone’s input is valued.
Our clinics are well-equipped to handle the wide range of cases we see, with tools such as easy scan, small animal ultrasound, IDEXX lab stations, X-ray, ECG, endoscopy, and more. We have excellent kennel and stabling facilities, a horse stock, and even a small ruminant operating table.
From day-to-day consults and routine procedures to more complex surgeries and emergency care, you’ll be supported to develop and thrive in all areas of practice.
We offer flexible working patterns that flex with you and your lifestyle. Whether you are looking to flex your rota hours to balance the school holidays, fix to navigate the school runs or just looking to strike that balance between home and work life. We can offer flexibility that works for all team members.
The standard full-time vet rota consists of a 40-hour week, working 1 weekend in 4 with a long weekend off in lieu the following week. There is an OOH requirement to work 1 night per week on call, in the winter months and 1 night per week every fortnight, in summer months. Although this is advertised as a full-time role, we are open to both full time and part time applications.
Life beyond work is just as rewarding here! Nestled in the Sperrin Mountains, Maghera is a charming town offering stunning scenery, rich history, and a welcoming community, it’s a fantastic location with rural charm and city convenience.
Outdoor lovers will enjoy hiking, exploring, and breathtaking views, while the iconic North Coast and Giant’s Causeway are just a 45-minute drive away.
However if you prefer the hustle and bustle of city life on your days off you’re only 40 minutes from Derry or Belfast. With Belfast airport just 30 minutes away you have easy access to everything you need.
We recognise that our people are fundamental to the success of our business. Investing in our people, premises and processes is at the heart of what we do. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will benefit from –
