Job Description

Introduction

Our client is a corporately owned, RCVS-accredited practice located in Cornwall, seeking an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their friendly and collaborative team. If you’re looking for a varied role with excellent support and the opportunity to mentor newer team members, this could be the perfect fit.

Working Hours / Rota

Permanent full-time role

4.5-day working week

Participation in a shared Saturday rota

Occasional in-patient OOH care

Role Description

This role involves the full spectrum of small animal duties, with clinical responsibilities spanning consultations, diagnostics, and surgery. You will work primarily across the Callington, Saltash, and Looe branches, enjoying a good variety of casework and client interaction. The role is ideal for someone confident in sole charge and passionate about supporting the growth of others, particularly new graduates.

The practice environment fosters teamwork and development, with weekly clinical meetings and a culture focused on delivering exceptional patient care. Certificate study is actively supported for those interested in pursuing a specific area of expertise.

Team Size

The current clinical team includes 8 veterinary surgeons and a large team of experienced nurses and receptionists. Interests within the team include imaging, internal medicine, and dentistry, with several team members undertaking or holding further qualifications. The team is growing and welcomes new talent with open arms.

Practice Details

With five branches serving the Devon and Cornwall region – three small animal and two farm-focused – this well-established practice has been part of the community for over 65 years. Most small animal services are delivered from the Callington site, with additional facilities at Saltash and Looe. The team maintains strong ties to local referral centres and works hard to deliver compassionate, comprehensive veterinary care in a welcoming environment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be confident with all aspects of small animal veterinary work and comfortable with occasional sole charge. You’ll be an excellent communicator with a team-focused mindset and a passion for mentoring junior colleagues. A flexible, proactive approach and a desire to contribute to the wider success of the practice will be highly regarded.
