Job summary

Owen Daniels in Ripley, Derbyshire, seeks an experienced Vertical Turner/Vertical Borer to join a precision machining team. You will program, set and operate vertical turning/boring machines to produce high-integrity components for aerospace, nuclear and power generation sectors.

The role requires experience with GD&T, a strong manufacturing mindset and the ability to maintain tight tolerances across exotic materials. An apprenticeship or NVQ3 in engineering is expected.

Qualifications

• Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent validated by NVQ3 or time served.
• Experience programming, setting and operating vertical borers/turners.
• Strong reading of engineering drawings and GD&T.
• Experience in a precision machining environment with high-quality outputs.

Responsibilities

• Program, set and operate vertical turning/boring machines.
• Machine low-volume, high-integrity components to tight tolerances.
• Work with nickel alloys, titanium, stainless steels and other materials.
• Prove out programs and support continuous improvement.
• Interpret drawings and manufacturing documentation; carry out in-process inspection.

Are you an experienced Vertical Turner or Vertical Borer looking to work on complex, high-value components within a precision engineering environment? Our client is a well-established manufacturer supplying highly regulated industries including Aerospace, Nuclear and Power Generation. Due to continued growth, they are looking to strengthen their machining team with the addition of a skilled machinist who can programme, set and operate vertical turning and boring machines.

Job Description

• Programme, set and operate Vertical Turning / Boring machines
• Machine low-volume, high-integrity components to tight tolerances
• Work with a range of materials including nickel alloys, titanium, stainless steels, aluminium and carbon steels
• Prove out new programs and support continuous improvement activities
• Interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation
• Carry out in-process inspection using a variety of measuring equipment
• Complete route cards and production paperwork accurately
• Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards
• Carry out routine machine maintenance checks

Qualifications & Skills

• Apprentice trained, Time Served or NVQ Level 3 qualified in Engineering
• Previous experience programming, setting and operating Vertical Borers or Vertical Turners
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings and geometric tolerances
• Experience working within a precision machining environment
• Ability to machine a variety of materials and maintain high-quality standards
• Experience with Fanuc or Siemens controls would be advantageous
• Background within Aerospace, Nuclear, Power Generation or similar industries would be beneficial

Package on Offer

• Competitive hourly rate of £17.82 - £21.17 per hour
