Westray Recruitment Group is representing an established engineering business in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. We seek a time-served machinist to produce precision parts from billets, castings, and forgings, across various metals.

The role involves setting, programming, and operating CNC vertical borers (500mm–7,000mm) and close collaboration with production, quality and management on high-value projects. We value accuracy, a strong grasp of engineering drawings, and a proactive attitude to maintain

Qualifications

• Time-served machinist with a recognised Machine Shop apprenticeship.
• Experience setting and operating lathes or vertical borers.
• Able to set one-off jobs and write/edit programmes, reading engineering drawings accurately.
• Skilled in using manual measurement equipment to verify dimensions and finishes.
• Growth mindset with attention to detail and ongoing skills development.

Responsibilities

• Produce high-precision parts from billets, fabrications, castings and forgings across metals.
• Set, programme and operate CNC vertical borers from 500mm to 7,000mm diameter (experience dependent).
• Collaborate with production support, quality and management on high-value projects to meet customer standards.
• Maintain a meticulous focus on quality and component care throughout manufacturing.

• Package: £21.19 per hour (including night shift rate & shift allowance)
• Working Pattern: Monday-Thursday (4x10 hour shifts, days and nights)

THE ROLE

• Produce a range of high precision parts from billets, fabrications, castings, and forgings across various metals.
• Set, programme, and operate CNC vertical borers ranging from 500mm to 7,000mm in diameter (dependent on experience).
• Work collaboratively with production support, quality, and management teams on interesting, high-value projects to meet strict customer standards.
• Maintain a meticulous focus on quality and component care throughout the manufacturing process.

THE PERSON

• Time-served machinist having completed a recognised Machine Shop apprenticeship.
• Proven background operating and setting lathes or vertical borers.
• Strong technical ability to set one-off jobs, write/edit programmes, and accurately read engineering drawings.
• Skilled in using manual measurement equipment to verify dimensions and surface finishes.
• Possesses a growth mindset, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning and skills development.
