Job summary

American Bureau of Shipping is seeking a Verification Specialist to conduct onshore and offshore assessment of safety-critical equipment, systems and documentation on energy installations worldwide.

The role spans oil & gas and renewable energy sectors, delivering regulatory guidance and verification services to clients across the globe. You will conduct examinations, prepare reports, and engage with clients to resolve issues while maintaining verification records.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent required or recognized experience.
• Membership of Professional Institution or Engineering Council preferred.
• Experience in verification or similar roles advantageous.
• Proficiency in English commensurate with regulatory certification and services.

Responsibilities

• Acts as ABS’s specialist for verification activities.

• Prepares technically accurate reports of verification examinations.

The role includes onshore and offshore assessment of Safety Critical equipment, systems, and documentation on energy installations globally.

The dynamic role includes working across oil & gas and renewable energy sectors to provide regulatory guidance and Verification service across the globe.

What You Will Do:

• Acts as ABS’s professional specialist for the organization in its verification activities.
• Performs routine verification examinations on units for which ABS is the Independent Verification Body.
• Prepares technically accurate and timely reports of verification examinations.
• Engage in contact with clients to resolve problems andassist in the development and maintenance of verification documentation.
• Maintains verification files in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

• HNC / HND / Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent recognized experience
• Membership of recognized Professional Institution or Engineering Council preferred
• Demonstrableexperience in similar position or within a verification type role is advantageous.
• Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the scope of statutory certification and services and, before assignment, with their future work.
• BOSIET, MIST, and ATEX qualifications preferable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• An understanding of The Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive)(Safety Case etc) Regulations, 2013/30/EU Offshore Safety Directive, and associated legislation.
• Knowledge of goal-setting legislative regimes, major hazard management and appreciation of risk assessment techniques.
• An understanding of unit-specific major accident hazards, safety and environmental critical element performance standards and verification activities.
• An awareness of and have an understanding of main plant isolatable inventories; incident escalation pathways; and prevention, control and mitigation barriers
• An awareness of process safety and integrity management principles, engineering standards and specifications
• Relevant plant knowledge, understanding of operational status / plant conditions and suitable experience
• Able to apply Operational Risk Assessments (ORA) processes and methodology
• An understanding of SECE impairment rule sets
• An understanding of specific site emergency response plans and procedures
• Aware of the suitability and limitations of Operational Risk Assessments (ORA) process.
• Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
• Ability to read engineering plans and have a basic understanding of oil and gas practices and installation operations.
• Ability to perform examinations in the prescribed format.
• Ability to develop a working knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities.
• Knowledge of installation systems and machinery.
