Job summary

Hampshire County Council is seeking an HTM Workshop Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of the vehicle workshop at Micheldever. You will supervise technical staff, ensure servicing and maintenance meet high standards, and work with the Area Workshop Manager to improve service delivery and financial control.

You will manage staff development, safety compliance, and record-keeping while coordinating with suppliers and customers to maintain fleet availability and performance.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or supervising staff in a vehicle maintenance/engineering setting.
• Strong Health & Safety knowledge, including Duty of Care and transport legislation.
• Excellent organisational, leadership and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and customer liaison skills.
• Competent IT skills, including fleet management systems and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operation of the workshop, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation and HCC policies.
• Act as on-site technical lead across vehicles, plant and manufacturers.
• Plan, schedule and oversee servicing, inspections and repairs to maintain fleet roadworthi- ness and availability.
• Allocate work and manage workflow to meet service times and quality standards.
• Act as Responsible Manager for site Health & Safety, including LOLER and PUWER.
• Lead and develop workshop staff and apprentices, addressing performance, wellbeing and training needs.
• Maintain accurate statutory, inspection and maintenance records and ensure audit readiness.
• Monitor budgets, control costs and support KPI reporting.
• Liaise with customers, manufacturers and suppliers on technical issues and service delivery.
• Ensure workshop readiness for emergency standby and winter maintenance.
