Job summary

A well-established independent garage in Derby is seeking a capable Vehicle Technician to join their experienced workshop team. You will work with multi-brand diagnostics on a range of makes and models, perform servicing, clutch and timing belt work, and keep clear job notes.

The package includes £35,000–£45,000 basic, a bonus scheme, 20 days’ leave, pension, on-site parking, and progression into MOT testing where possible. Working hours are Monday to Friday with Saturdays on a rota basis.

Qualifications

• Time-served mechanic with solid confidence in heavy mechanical repair work and diagnostic troubleshooting.
• Level 3 NVQ / IMI in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent).
• MOT Smart Card / active MOT Tester licence preferred, but not essential.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Execute major repair jobs including clutch replacements, timing belts/chains, engine work and gearbox swaps.
• Use multi-brand diagnostic tools to isolate and fix mechanical and electrical issues.
• Perform routine servicing, safety checks, brake/suspension overhauls, and pre-MOT inspections.
• Complete clear technical notes on job sheets and update front-of-house staff on progress.
• Keep working bays clean, organized and compliant with health and safety standards.
