Job summary

Education Authority in Newry/Armagh Transport Depots seeks a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic to service, maintain and repair a range of vehicles and equipment. You will apply diagnostic techniques, use hand tools and electrical diagnostic gear to diagnose faults and perform repairs to high safety standards.

The role requires careful record-keeping, adherence to health and safety rules, and the ability to supervise semi-skilled staff and apprentices.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum of NVQ Level 3 Motor Vehicle or an equivalent qualification.
• Full current category B driving licence.
• Evidence of a minimum of three years’ working experience of carrying out maintenance on a range of vehicles, plant and machinery.
• Evidence of experience of working with vehicle electrics and of using diagnostic computer equipment.
• Proven ability to maintain accurate and up to date records.
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
• Ability to communicate in English and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Examine, inspect and report on the condition, roadworthiness and safety of any vehicle or equipment.
• Service, maintain, adjust or repair vehicles and components using appropriate tools and facilities.
• Attend breakdowns and diagnose faults to minimise further damage or risk.
• Manufacture simple component parts and undertake repairs involving electrical or IT components.
• Supervise and instruct semi-skilled staff and apprentices.
• Maintain health and safety compliance and keep accurate records.
