Job summary

Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic to service, repair and maintain a range of vehicles and equipment. You will work to high standards, supervise junior staff, and use diagnostic tools to identify faults.

The role involves breakdown response, safety compliance and continuous improvement within vehicle maintenance practices. You may be required to undergo training, liaise with the Foreperson, and contribute to efficient fault diagnosis and repair across

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum NVQ Level 3 Motor Vehicle or equivalent.
• Full current category B driving licence.
• Minimum three years’ experience maintaining a range of vehicles, plant and machinery.
• Experience with vehicle electrics and diagnostic computer equipment.

Responsibilities

• Examine, inspect and report on vehicle condition, roadworthiness and safety.
• Service, maintain and repair vehicles and equipment to defined standards.
• Interpret service data and maintenance standards to ensure compliant work.
• Attend breakdowns and minimise further damage to vehicles and public safety.
• Manufacture simple component parts and perform repairs including welding.
• Apply Vehicle Maintenance Service policies to optimise equipment availability.
• Use diagnostic techniques to identify malfunctions and recommend improvements.
• Supervise semi-skilled staff and apprentices; attend training courses as needed.
