Job summary

Alstom in Derby is recruiting a Paint Finisher to deliver high-quality surface finishing on large rail vehicles. You will perform full surface preparation, priming, spraying and final finishing in a safety-critical production environment, following technical drawings and specifications.

The role requires attention to detail, readiness for a physically demanding shift, and collaboration with a fast-paced production team. Day shifts with blended pay rates apply; immediate starts are available.

Qualifications

• Essential experience in paint finishing or spray painting.
• Ability to prepare, prime and finish large surface areas.
• Experience reading technical instructions and specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and quality control.
• Physically demanding production environment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out full surface preparation on rolling stock (sanding, keying, masking, filling).
• Apply primer and topcoat systems, including 2K paint systems.
• Spray large vehicle surfaces to a high-quality standard.
• Complete finishing work including polishing, defect removal and snagging.
• Carry out touch-ups and rectification work on completed vehicles.
• Apply detailed livery designs accurately to specification.
• Work from technical drawings, written instructions and job sheets.
• Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness and quality.
• Work effectively as part of a fast-paced production team.

Role Purpose

This role involves delivering high-quality paint finishing on large rail vehicles, including full surface preparation, priming, spraying, and final finishing. You will be working in a safety-critical, physically demanding production environment where precision and finish quality are essential. Candidates from a range of engineering and vehicle finishing backgrounds will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out full surface preparation on rolling stock (sanding, keying, masking, filling)
• Apply primer and topcoat systems, including 2K paint systems
• Spray large vehicle
  surfaces to a high-quality standard
• Complete finishing work including polishing, defect removal, and snagging
• Carry out touch-ups and rectification work on completed vehicles

Shifts, Salary & Benefits

Note: The shift is a single continuous day shift with blended pay rates applied across early and late hours within the shift.
Days, Monday - Thursday (45 hr week total)
06.00 - 16.30 Friday 06.00 - 11.00 o 06:00-14:00: £19.57 PAYE / £26.17 Umbrella
o 14:00-16:30: £24.06 PAYE / £28.09 Umbrella

Required Skills & Experience

• Essential Previous experience in paint finishing or spray painting
• Ability to prepare, prime, and finish large surface areas
• Experience working from technical instructions and specifications
• Strong attention to detail and
  quality control
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment

Desirable

• Experience in rail, automotive, marine, aviation, HGV, or plant industries
• Water-based paint system experience
• Knowledge of 2K systems and Hydro topcoats
• Ability to mix and match paint colours accurately
• Experience with pressure pot spray systems
• Experience working with aluminium components (awareness of sensitivity considerations)
